The Doral flood watch expired at 7 p.m. Monday, when NWS Miami said the flooding threat had ended. A severe thunderstorm warning covered Doral that afternoon.

Updated Nov. 4: the flood watch expired at 7 p.m. Monday. The National Weather Service in Miami said at 7:04 p.m. that “the flooding threat has ended.”

Doral was under a flood watch until 7 p.m. Monday. Bands of heavy rain could flood streets and close roads across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Updated Nov. 2: the National Weather Service in Miami extended the flood watch to 7 p.m. Monday, from 3 p.m. It also issued a severe thunderstorm warning at 3:55 p.m. Monday for north central Miami-Dade, naming Doral among the places in its path. That warning was canceled at 4:10 p.m.. No flood warning for Miami-Dade had been issued Monday as of 6 p.m. Details below.

The National Weather Service in Miami issued the watch late Saturday and updated it at 12:49 p.m. Sunday. It covers Metropolitan Miami-Dade, the forecast zone that includes Doral.

A watch means flooding could happen. A flood warning, if one follows, means it is happening or about to.

What the weather service expects

The watch says an upper-level low over Florida, with a strong easterly wind behind it, will push bands of repeated rain over the same places through Monday. The original watch said the rain would be more widespread and heavier than in recent days.

The updated watch says:

  • scattered places along the east coast may get 3 to 5 inches of rain through Monday
  • isolated spots could see 5 to 7 inches
  • those totals may fall within a few hours
  • flash flooding is possible, mainly street flooding and road closures, with limited impact on buildings in flood-prone areas
  • impacts could be worse if the heaviest rain falls near the coast at high tide

The weather service said uncertainty is high about exactly where the heaviest rain will land.

Monday: watch extended, storms with 60 mph gusts

The weather service reissued the watch at 11:59 p.m. Sunday and pushed its end to 7 p.m. Monday. It said pockets of very heavy rain had caused localized flash flooding on Sunday. On Sunday, a flash flood warning covered central Miami-Dade, including Kendall and Pinecrest, after radar showed 3 to 5 inches of rain there. Doral was not on its list of places.

The reissued watch says:

  • common totals of 1 to 3 inches where showers and storms form Monday
  • 3 to 5 inches in scattered spots across South Florida
  • isolated totals as high as 6 to 9 inches
  • that rain could fall in two to four hours

Monday afternoon brought strong storms. At 3:55 p.m., the weather service warned of a severe thunderstorm near the Miccosukee Resort, about 9 miles northwest of Kendall, moving north at 10 mph. The warning listed 60 mph wind gusts and possible damage to roofs, siding and trees. Doral was among the places named. The weather service canceled it at 4:10 p.m.

At 3:51 p.m., a special weather statement tracked a storm near Krome Avenue and Kendall Drive that could produce a funnel cloud, with gusts of 50 to 55 mph. It also listed Doral.
