The G20 map marks NW 87th Avenue and NW 36th Street for closure for Dec. 14-15. Okeechobee Road at the Palmetto closes 9 p.m. Nov. 6 to 5 a.m. Nov. 9.

Last checked Oct. 30, 2026. Refreshed weekly. Facts on this page come from FDOT District 6 lane closures, FDOT’s statewide work-zone feed, Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise and the City of Doral.

Three expressways serve Doral: the Palmetto Expressway (State Road 826), Florida’s Turnpike (State Road 821) and the Dolphin Expressway (State Road 836). The Florida Department of Transportation’s District 6 runs the state roads, Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise runs the Turnpike, and the city’s Public Works Department runs city streets. FDOT District 6 lists no lane closures inside the city this week. The closures that reach Doral drivers are on its edges: a full weekend closure Nov. 6-9 at the Palmetto Expressway and Okeechobee Road, the SW Eighth Street closure near FIU Nov. 2-4 and lane work at NW 36th Street and NW 72nd Avenue. The biggest planned disruption this year is the G20 Leaders’ Summit, Dec. 14-15, when a federal planning map shows NW 87th Avenue and NW 36th Street closed around Trump National Doral Miami.

Updated Oct. 30: added the G20 road closure map and the Doral Central Park closure; FDOT canceled the Oct. 27-30 nightly Palmetto on-ramp closures because of weather; the Dolphin Expressway overnight closures near NW 17th Avenue were listed only through Friday night, Oct. 30.

Updated Oct. 28: added the Dolphin Expressway overnight closures through Oct. 30 and the SW Eighth Street closure near FIU, Nov. 2-4.

Coming: weekend closure at Okeechobee Road, Nov. 6-9

The continuous weekend closure FDOT had set for Oct. 22-26 has been moved to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9. It covers State Road 25/Okeechobee Road, the southbound Palmetto Expressway on-ramp and NW South River Drive, while crews install a large overhead support structure for the new Palmetto ramps. FDOT has not yet posted the detour for that weekend; we will add it here when it does. The nightly on-ramp closures FDOT had planned for Oct. 27-30 were canceled because of weather, the agency said.

The work is part of FDOT’s rebuild of State Road 25/Okeechobee Road from east of NW 87th Avenue to NW 74th Avenue, including its interchange with the Palmetto Expressway, northeast of Doral.

Longer-running changes on the same project:

  • The eastbound lane of NW South River Drive between NW 91st Terrace and NW 79th Avenue is fully closed through fall 2026. The detour runs right on NW 93rd Terrace, left on NW 82nd Avenue, left on NW 90th Street and left on NW 79th Avenue. Westbound South River Drive is open.
  • The northbound Palmetto off-ramp to Okeechobee Road is down from two exit lanes to one.
  • The right-turn lane from northbound NW 79th Avenue to eastbound Okeechobee Road is temporarily removed.
  • Lanes can be closed 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. any day, 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. on weeknights and 11 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. on weekends.

Now: NW 36th Street at NW 72nd Avenue

FDOT is rebuilding the intersection of State Road 948/NW 36th Street and State Road 969/NW 72nd Avenue, just east of the Palmetto Expressway. The project fact sheet lists a longer westbound merge lane on NW 36th Street, wider southbound left-turn lanes on NW 72nd Avenue, repaving, drainage, signal, crosswalk and lighting work. It started in August 2026, costs $1.1 million and is due to finish in early 2027.

  • Lanes can be closed 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. on weekdays and 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. on weekends.
  • FDOT says access to businesses and homes stays open, with signed detours for drivers and people on foot.

Coming: SW Eighth Street closure near FIU, Nov. 2-4

FDOT’s statewide work-zone feed lists a full closure of eastbound SW Eighth Street (U.S. 41/Tamiami Trail) from SW 112th Avenue to SW 107th Avenue from Monday, Nov. 2, to Wednesday, Nov. 4, for the FIU pedestrian bridge, by Sweetwater, about three miles south. Westbound SW Eighth Street has a three-lane closure about 500 feet either side of SW 109th Avenue through Dec. 16. FDOT has not posted the hours or the detour on its District 6 list; check FL511 before you go.

Turnpike widening north of Doral

Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise is widening the Turnpike Extension (State Road 821) to 10 lanes from NW 106th Street to I-75, just north of the city. Its weekly advisory for the week of Oct. 25 listed lane closures between NW 106th Street and I-75 on one night only, Sunday, Oct. 25, which is now over. FDOT’s statewide work-zone feed lists through-lane work on the Turnpike Extension from milepost 27 to milepost 47, which runs past Doral, from Tuesday, Nov. 3, to Tuesday, Nov. 10; the Turnpike’s advisory for that week will give the nights and lanes. When ramps at Flagler Station Boulevard/NW 106th Street (Exit 34) close, the Turnpike’s detour to the southbound Turnpike runs through Doral: NW 112th Avenue south to NW 90th Street, east to NW 107th Avenue, south to NW 74th Street and west to the Turnpike. The Turnpike posts a new advisory every week on its construction page.

Coming: NW 107th Avenue

FDOT is designing a project on State Road 985/NW 107th Avenue from north of West Flagler Street to north of the Dolphin Expressway, on Doral’s southwest edge. The project page lists repaving and restriping, upgraded signals and pavement markings, guardrail along northbound 107th Avenue under the Dolphin Expressway bridges, and traffic separators at the crosswalks at NW Seventh Street/Fontainebleau Boulevard. FDOT lists the start as May 2027 and says temporary lane closures will keep access to businesses and neighborhoods open.

Planning: NW 36th Street corridor

FDOT has studied about nine miles of State Road 948/NW 36th Street, from the Palmetto Expressway east to Biscayne Boulevard, for mobility and safety improvements. The corridor study page shows it in the planning phase; its last public meeting was Oct. 30, 2023. No construction date is posted.

G20 summit closures, Dec. 14-15

The 2026 G20 Leaders’ Summit takes place Dec. 14-15 at Trump National Doral Miami, the city’s G20 page says. The city says temporary security measures and traffic changes may be in effect around the resort and nearby areas, and that residents and businesses will get advance notice through Doral Alerts. The Building Department has already canceled building, code, public works and zoning inspections on Dec. 14-15 “due to citywide road closures and events.” The city had not named specific closed streets when we checked Oct. 25; we will add them here when it does.

The city will brief residents on road closures, affected areas and alerts at two G20 community town halls: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Doral Central Park’s Lakeview Hall, and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 14, at Doral Legacy Park’s Event Hall.

Updated Oct. 28: in an Oct. 27 letter to business owners, Mayor Christi Fraga says some closures “may begin before and remain in place after the official summit dates” and asks employers to let staff work remotely where they can. Our story has the details.

Updated Oct. 30: the city’s G20 page now carries a public safety map with the U.S. Secret Service seal. It marks these stretches as road closures:

  • NW 87th Avenue, from NW 56th Street south to NW 35th Lane
  • NW 36th Street, from its junction with NW 41st Street near NW 94th Avenue east to just west of NW 83rd Avenue
  • NW 41st Street, east of NW 87th Avenue to about NW 84th Avenue

The city says the maps are “for planning purposes” and that closures are “subject to change as operational plans are finalized.” It gives no hours yet, and says impacts may begin as early as Thursday, Dec. 10. Doral Central Park is closed to the public Dec. 11-16, and seven public schools move to online classes Dec. 14-15. Our story has the school list.

The cameras work from 30 minutes before school starts, through the school day, to 30 minutes after it ends. They are off on weekends, holidays and days without school.
