Seven Doral public schools will teach online Dec. 14-15 and Doral Central Park closes Dec. 11-16. A federal map marks NW 87th Avenue and NW 36th Street for closure.
Seven Doral public schools will switch to online classes on Monday, Dec. 14, and Tuesday, Dec. 15, while the G20 Leaders’ Summit meets at Trump National Doral Miami. Doral Central Park will close to the public Dec. 11-16.
The City of Doral posted both changes on its G20 page, which it updated Thursday. The page also carries the first map of planned road closures around the resort. The city says some security activity and traffic impacts may begin as early as Thursday, Dec. 10.
Which schools go virtual
The city says Miami-Dade County Public Schools has been approved to offer a “virtual instructional option” on Dec. 14-15 at these schools:
- Eugenia B. Thomas K-8 Center
- J.C. Bermudez Doral Senior High School
- Dr. Rolando Espinosa K-8 Center
- John I. Smith K-8 Center
- Dr. Toni Bilbao Preparatory Academy
- Andrea Castillo Preparatory Academy
- Ronald W. Reagan/Doral Senior High School
The district is still “evaluating potential impacts to Air Base K-8 Center,” the city says. It is also weighing what to do for students who live in Doral but attend schools outside the affected area.
Students on virtual days must attend scheduled live classes, with “attendance taken and cameras enabled for identification.” The page also says:
- school bus routes may change because of road closures and security restrictions
- athletics, before- and after-school programs and other activities may be affected or canceled
- schools have been advised to avoid scheduling tests Dec. 14-17 where they can
Charter and private schools
The city lists these plans, which it says the schools have confirmed:
| School | Dec. 14-15 |
|---|---|
| Downtown Doral Charter Schools | Virtual classes |
| Doral Academy schools | Virtual classes |
| BridgePrep Academy | Virtual classes |
| Shelton Academy | In-person classes suspended |
| Divine Savior Academy | No classes, closed the whole week |
| Doral International Academy of Math and Science | No classes |
Parents at schools not on either list should contact their school directly, the city says.
The road closure map
The city posted two versions of a Doral public safety map bearing the U.S. Secret Service seal. The city says it shows “areas where traffic disruptions and security restrictions may occur.” It does not give times or dates for each closure.
The map marks these stretches as road closures, with “do not enter” points at each end:
- NW 87th Avenue, from NW 56th Street south to NW 35th Lane
- NW 36th Street, from its junction with NW 41st Street by the fire headquarters, near NW 94th Avenue, east to just west of NW 83rd Avenue
- NW 41st Street, east of NW 87th Avenue to about NW 84th Avenue
The resort sits inside that box, on the west side of NW 87th Avenue. The city calls the maps “for planning purposes.” It says “security perimeters, road closures, and access restrictions are subject to change as operational plans are finalized.”
Doral Central Park
Doral Central Park will be closed to the public Dec. 11-16 “to accommodate Summit-related operations,” the city says. Recreation programs will move to other city parks “whenever possible.” Our parks guide lists the alternatives.
What it means for you
- If your child attends one of the seven public schools: plan for two days of live online classes, with cameras on. Expect bus route changes and possible canceled games or after-school care that week.
- If you drive NW 87th Avenue or NW 36th Street: plan another route for the summit week, and allow for closures from as early as Thursday, Dec. 10.
- If you work near the resort: the mayor has asked employers to allow remote work on Dec. 14-15. Our story on that letter has the details.
- Get the confirmed times: sign up for Doral Alerts, the city’s notification system.
The city will explain the plan at two G20 community town halls: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Doral Central Park, 3005 NW 92nd Ave., and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 14, at Doral Legacy Park, 11400 NW 82nd St. Mayor Christi Fraga, the Police Department and federal partners will attend, the city says.
We keep the street-by-street picture on our Doral road closures page and will update it as the city confirms dates.
